Sizing details
Exact measurements for each item are provided in listing description. This allows you to purchase the right size item for your space. Tassels on both ends of an item (if they exist) are typically not included in sizing unless specified in listing description.
Do you accept returns?
Yes, I do. Please notify me as soon you receive the item. Take care to return the item in original, unused condition. Also, kindly provide me with the tracking number of the return package. Shipping both ways for a return is non-refundable. Please see policies section of my shop for more information.
Do you have more textiles/rugs in stock than what is listed?
Yes, I do. :-) A lot of ladies in my extended family and mother's village are beginning to request me to sell goodies from their trousseau trunks but it takes me a while to photograph items and list them for sale on Etsy. If you are looking for something in particular then please don't hesitate to send me a convo.
Gift wrapping and packaging
Rest assured, I don't include the receipt in any package. I will be happy to ship to the address provided in the order, so if you are sending a gift to someone then please be sure to include their address in the order. Upon request (no extra charge), I will be happy to include a hand-written note with your message to the order recipient. I use pink, vintage paper for these handwritten notes.
Are colors in listing pictures true to the item?
All pictures in my listings are of actual items and on my computer represent items well. Colors in listing pictures are dependent upon individual monitor settings, type of device and other factors. Due to this, there may be minor variation in colors from what you see in listing v/s actual product.
Is insurance included in shipping costs?
No. Insurance is not included in shipping charges. Please convo me to find out extra charges, should you wish to purchase insurance. I always ship with a tracking number and will upload tracking number to the Etsy order. On an extremely rare occasion that your package gets lost in the mail I cannot provide a refund unless insurance was purchased. However, I will do my best to help you locate the package.
How do I remove creases in a rug?
Creases in area rug can typically be removed by allowing the rug to rest open for several days, reverse rolling the rug, placing heavy furniture or weight on the carpet or placing the rug outdoors under the sun for several hours. Creases are temporary and seldom pose a long-term challenge to rug care and maintenance.
What makes handwoven dhurrie rugs a superior rug choice?
The minimal use of dyes, no adhesives/glues in these dhurrie rugs make the rate of decay of rug negligible. In addition, they are fully reversible, which effectively doubles the life of the rug. Tight handweaving further ensures rug longevity. With a bit of care, these dhurrie rugs will last you for generations.
Origin of dhurrie rugs
Dhurrie rugs were used in lieu on mattresses on top of the charpoy daybed. A charpoy, pronounced “char-pie”, is an inexpensive wooden frame, jute rope bed that is mostly used in India. The rope is woven as it is looped around the edges of the frame and can support the weight of at least 2-3 adults. Charpoy was employed as a couch, dinner table, and finally, and most importantly, as a bed. When being used as a bed, the charpoy was covered with a dhurrie rug with a bedsheet on top of it. Charpoy was made in different sizes (child, adult) they used to don the home of almost every rural village in India.
